WEIRDTheAlYankovicStory was almost A LOT weirder, says director Eric Appel 👀 'I think at one point I may have pitched time travel or meeting multiple versions of Al from different universes. That was a little too far. Maybe we'll do a sequel.' 😮🤔

Eric Appel, director of Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, reveals that the movie originally included ideas such as time travel. The biographical parody, inspired by a 2010 Funny or Die trailer and co-written by Yankovic himself, released on November 4 and recounts, through an almost entirely fictional series of events, the rise of the musician's career.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In his feature directorial debut, Appel had a sense of what he wanted to incorporate from the Funny or Die sketch. He previously explained that when working on the script, there were certain moments he thought of including, but some got left out as the full story began to develop. The film itself became a satire of biopics, with Radcliffe noting just how bizarre the whole experience was.

I think at one point I may have pitched time travel or meeting multiple versions of Al from different universes. That was a little too far. Maybe we'll do a sequel. We can use some of those crazier ideas. What Scenes Are Actually True in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story In a film that is nearly all fictional, it may be hard to find scenes that present actual events. However, there are some true details within Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, such as the musician's interview with Oprah Winfrey in the '80s. The Dr. Demento Show was also important to Weird Al's early success, with some of his first songs having been featured on it.

While Weird: The Al Yankovic Story certainly changes audiences' perspectives on what constitutes a biopic, the movie's performances and overall distinctiveness make its satirical approach highly entertaining. It will be interesting to see what Appel decides to do next, and if a future sequel full of wilder ideas ever comes to fruition.
