I figured we’d have news of Myles Straw going on the IL, but they say his ankle sprain isn’t too bad. He won’t play for a day or two, but they don’t think he’ll have a time on the IL. And Jonatan Clase is available on the bench today.

Today’s lineup. Roden can’t even get in the lineup with two outfielders out. Oh well. Arbitrary end points and all, but Davis Schneider is hitting .077/.200/.077 in his last five games, and he was robbed of a double yesterday. On the season, he has a .162 batting average. At some point, they will have to try someone else as a right-handed hitting option. Eric Lauer gets to be the actual starter, not just following a starter. They are saying he could go 75-85 pitches, but I’ll bet he’ll be a little lower than that. They rarely seem to want to push pitchers to go to the upper end of their limits. The Rays owner, Stu Sternberg, is discussing selling the team to a Jacksonville area home builder. The thing that surprised me is that the team is valued at $1.7 billion. This is a team playing in a minor league ballpark, with no permanent home on the horizon. When people tell me baseball is dying, I always point out how much teams are selling for. Of course, the Lakers are, apparently, selling for $10 billion. That seems like enough for a whole league, not a team in a league. It sounds like Max Scherzer will be back with the team soon.
