Western counties will bear the early brunt of bad conditions but the rest of the country will feel the effects just hours later
A weather expert has confirmed a significant change is coming this evening as rain and high winds batter Ireland for the remainder of the week.
Today Bright or sunny intervals and scattered showers at first today, Tuesday. Rain will develop in the west and southwest this morning, extending countrywide this afternoon and evening, with some heavy falls in west Connacht and southwest Munster. The rain will clear eastwards followed by clear spells and scattered showers. Winds will ease in most places overnight but it will stay windy in the northwest. Minimum temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees.
Showers becoming largely confined to western coastal counties on Wednesday night. Long clear spells developing elsewhere. Lows of 3 to 7 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds. Winds will ease overnight but they will remain fresh to strong along eastern, southern and southwestern coasts. Lows of 4 to 8 degrees.
