'We woke up to our master bedroom exploding': Young family narrowly escaped Orléans explosion

The family of Ian Carlson and Rosalinn Bulmer only moved into their home in late December.

It was only 10 or 15 minutes before the explosion shattered their family reverie.

Together, the family hurried into the street without searching for wallets, clothes or cellphones. Carlson and his wife, barefoot, were met outside by construction workers who were going door-to-door to make sure everyone had escaped the blast. The family was taken to a nearby emergency shelter.“My wallet’s the only possession we have from the house,” he said.Article content

Carlson, a Carleton University graduate, said the whole family was to be further examined later this week out of an abundance of caution. Carlson said the family had just started to settle into their new home on Shallow Pond Place when the disaster struck.
