The June 1 rally marked the second time people have gathered to say Yarmouth and this end of the province deserve to have a provincial art gallery presence.
It's also been noted about the importance the art gallery had for schools in the region, with about 4,000 students coming through its doors over the years. “I don’t want to hand this and our community over to a curatorial staff from Halifax that just diminishes the visions of our community,” said rally attendee Kellianne Land.
Yarmouth MLA and Liberal leader Zach Churchill was not in attendance but sent a message of support to the rally. Argyle MLA Colton LeBlanc, minister of Service Nova Scotia and Acadian Affairs, was not at the rally. Later in the day Saltwire asked him about the gallery.
