TORONTO—The Trump administration needn’t worry about Canada. That’s the message Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland are sending in response to American president-elect Donald Trump’s threatened 10-20 per cent tariff on imports to his country. They have made it clear that Canada shares Trump’s hostility to Mexico. Likewise, Freeland has promised that Canada is “100 per cent aligned” with Trump on China. She is not alone.
” The council, the government said, “will make recommendations, focusing on growth-driving sectors and the pro-business environment. It will also monitor and evaluate impact; data and analysis will be central to this.” Harvard University runs a Growth Lab, which publishes an Economic Complexity Index measuring the extent to which the world's countries compete on the basis of sophisticated, complex, and high-value products and components. Canada does not do well.
