Here’s how to master the dreamy makeup technique.
First, tap primer all over your clean, bare lids, from your brow bones to the root of your lashes. This makes the colors adhere and helps you control their intensity, Baker tellsNext, it's shadow time. Dip the flat brush into whatever color you want to start with. I don't really have a rhyme or reason to the order I go in. I usually just gravitate toward my favorite color of the day.
Then, add the shadow to whatever part of your lid that feels right: the inner corner, outer corner, center. The size and shape are up to you, too, but I tend to keep the surface area of each hue around the same as a dime. Another tip: Wherever I end up putting the color on one lid, I usually put it on the opposite side on the other eye.with the fluffy brush to ensure your eye makeup has that watercolor-like transparency to it.
From there, add more colors with these same parameters in mind. Be sure to bend out the edges every time, and don't overlap the shades to avoid muddying. Think of the process as an actual watercolor painting.After all the gaps are filled in on my lid, I like to go back in with the flat brush and intensify the colors where I want them to look brighter. I also sweep whatever is left on the brush along my lower lash lines.
To soften the tones, though, Baker recommends softening the edges with white matte eye shadow on your blending brush, if you have pale skin. "For deeper skin tones, use your face powder mixed with white shadow to soften the color," she adds. Finally, I tightline my lids with the black eye pencil. With all the colors happening, this step helps frame and define my eyes.
