Guardians rookie Oscar Gonzalez launched a solo home run in the bottom of the 15th inning Saturday to send Cleveland into the American League Division Series with a walk-off win against Tampa Bay.
Gonzalez, delivered the eighth walk-off plate appearance in Cleveland playoff history and the first since Yan Gomes’ RBI base hit in game two of the 2017 Division Series against New York.
It’s the second walk-off home run in Cleveland playoff history, joining Tony Pena’s solo homer in the 13th inning of the 1995 ALDS against Boston. It’s also the first walk-off home run to clinch a postseason series in Cleveland history and the 13th time it’s happened in Major League Baseball history.
Gonzalez’s blast was the second-latest home run in terms of innings, exceeded only by Houston’s Chris Burke who homered in the 18th inning of game four of the 2005 National League Division Series.
