Watch UCLA Gymnast Nia Dennis Perform an Epic Floor Routine to 'Uptown Funk' on the Met Gala Steps
The theme of this year’s ball was"In America: A Lexicon of Fashion," so Nia fittingly performed to several songs that she called distinctly American “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys, “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars, and “American Boy” by Kanye West featuring Estelle.
Nia came into the public eye after her college gymnastics routines went viral last year. Her routines were odes to the Black Lives Matter movement. Commenters on an Instagram video of the Met performance were quick to praise Nia, one writing “this is so good it makes me want to go watch Beyoncé Homecoming Coachella.”
