A group in Southern California is sending several hundred teddy bears to students and families in Uvalde, Texas, as they grieve for the victims and grapple with the aftermath of last week’s elementary school shooting.

“It causes your heart rate to slow down, your breathing to slow down, and gives you an overall sense of calm,” said Marcella Johnson, founder of the Comfort Cub.Johnson told KGTV that she designed the bear while dealing with the pain of losing her newborn son."My heart really hurt, and my arms ached, and I found when I put a weighed object in my arms, the aching went away," Johnson said.

Sarah Word, a survivor of the 2017 Las Vegas music festival shooting, received a bear of her own following the shooting. She came to help package the bears for those in Uvalde, Texas.
