Had the Dubs lost that game, they would have tied the NBA record for a defending champion's worst road losing streak. The Chicago Bulls set that record in the 1998-99 season after Michael Jordan's second retirement, and second threepeat, with 12 straight road losses. However, that team had the excuse of losing the arguably greatest player in NBA history, trading away Scottie Pippen and dealing with a lockout-shortened season that didn't begin until February. The Dubs' excuses aren't nearly as good. Road games have simply been a thorn in the team's side this season — the Warriors are 8-29 away from San Francisco — much to the chagrin of fans, coaches and players alike."Our focus level was pathetic to start the game,".
All wins count the same in the standings, but a win against an 18-54 team that hung around for nearly the entire game surely doesn't feel validating for a defending champion trying to gain some end-of-season momentum. That's especially true when the issue is once again a slow start, a common theme in nearly every road game this season.
