Golden State Warriors vs. Sacramento Kings: Missed opportunities, Andrew Wiggins’ role and Curry’s minutes
SACRAMENTO — The Warriors canceled their practice Sunday following their loss to the Kings in Game 1. Instead, they holed up in the team hotel to look over film. Perhaps the adjustments necessary for Game 2 warranted a lengthy discussion over another walk-through.
But the series could turn if the Warriors capitalize against the Kings’ league-worst defense. The Warriors found plenty of success in the first half getting into the paint, finding comfortable shots with little resistance form Domantas Sabonis at the rim. The Kings went big with backup center Alex Len, an exploitable defender himself.
Notably, Jordan Poole was a non-factor in seven fourth-quarter minutes, shooting 0-for-2 from 3 without a single drive to the rim. He scored all 17 of his points in the first half. Wiggins played 28 minutes and scored 17 points on 7-of-16 shooting with four blocks. But he was 1-of-8 from 3, including a miss on the potential go-ahead 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. He and his teammates had some lapses boxing out on rebounds, too, leading to the pivotal offensive rebound discrepancy. The Warriors were ultimately buried by a Kings 13-4 run in the final two minutes of the third quarter.
