Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk gave a standard hockey answer when asked about stopping the most dynamic player on the Florida Panthers.
Brady entered the contest against the Panthers with 33 goals, 42 assists and 107 penalty minutes. The biggest debate about his performance in a 5-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils Saturday was the fact that he didn’t turn down a fight against an inferior opponent because he might have been more valuable as a goal scorer.
By now, the novelty of brother playing brother has worn off. Brady says playing Matthew nine times during the COVID-19 season of 2020-21 took care of that, but every game remains precious to the family. “Just for everyone to be around for a week here and then to go to Florida for a week, it’s special, quality time for everyone,” said Brady. “For Matthew and I, we wouldn’t be in the position without everyone in our family and friends. We’re always excited when everyone is coming to watch us play.”Article content
The Tkachuks are central to their team’s fortunes. Outside of Connor McDavid’s season for the ages, an argument can be made that Matthew has been the NHL’s best player. As for Brady, he again illustrated his value to the Senators in the opening 11 minutes against the Devils, scoring once and fighting Miles Wood.
