Former Hardwick Township Mayor James J. Perry tried to turn something positive out of the death of his son.
. The League said Perry helped coordinate with the governor and attorney general’s offices to make sure every eligible town got a piece of opioid settlements.
Hardwick Township’s statement says Perry’s efforts even reached the White House, and he worked for legislation that expanded rehabilitation. “I know through his advocacy, lives were saved,” Warren County Commissioner James Kern III said on social media. Perry was a 36-year-old computer consultant when he was first appointed by Gov. Christie Whitman to fill a vacancy on the Hardwick Township Committee in 2000. The Republican was“Jim was always one of the first to welcome people to Hardwick,” the statement says. “He was extremely proud to live in and represent a small town and made sure people felt welcomed when they arrived from outside towns.”
