The first week of Rodeo concerts have showcased country, Christian pop and hip-hop....
Saturday night's Walker Hayes show was a bit of all three. Hayes is classified as country but his sound is equally informed by other genres.
Hayes got a huge boost during the COVID-19 pandemic when his song"Fancy Like" went viral on Tik Tok. It revived his career and took him from the retail graveyard shift to huge stages. "I'm gonna try to say it as many times as I can. This is overwhelmingly awesome," he told the crowd of 69,507 at NRG Stadium."Seven years ago I was working at Costco, so this is pretty bad-to-the-bone awesome."
He's an animated, energetic performer and punctuates his songs with hoots and hollers. Lyrically, he's a fan of lists:"Country Stuff" ;"Delorean" ;"Drinking Songs" .a bit of cheeky charm, though, when he rhymed Dolly Parton with James Harden during recent single"Y'all Life."
