In the early spring season, before green-up of grass and other ground vegetation occurs, litter shows up more than ever. If you walk, run or bike along roads, you may notice that, unfortunately, you often see litter in roadside ditches.
The big question is, how, in this day and age, when we have more access to information than ever before, can people justify littering the natural environment, which is limited and fragile? Sometimes people look at the global situation and assume there is nothing they can do to make a difference. But that is not true. There are large scale global actions that can be taken - such as dramatic reductions in the use of fossil fuels for our everyday life. Some of this action is currently taking place slowly as we are witnessing more conversion from oil and gas fueled power to solar, wind, greener electricity and soon hydrogen.
One of the most obvious things we can all do, while also to influencing others, is to not litter. We shouldn’t be throwing bottles, cans, fast food materials, cigarette butts, or anything else out the windows of our vehicles, or any other time. This is easily prevented by logical thinking and caring about our environmental future.
