Alder Music was my introduction to Gary’s enjoyable and educational nature-based writing, after making much use of his earlier penned Trees of Nova Scotia reference book. The subtitle of Alder Music says it all – a Celebration of our Environment.
Gary’s recent release, Earth Keeping, has the byline, love notes for tough times. The book, as described bywinner Annie Proulx, is “a book for all of us, how we have lived and where we are going.” It covers a wide variety of interesting topics including local folklore, history, rural life, ecological highlights, wildlife stories and oddities; work, play and food; land, sea and sky; and remembering.
