Delki Dozzi Community Centre and Sports Complex played host to the second-annual Elaine Lahti Gareau Memorial Walk For Lupus on Friday evening
Lupus is “like a surprise bag,” in that those who have it never know what symptoms are going to crop up on any given day, thus earning its name, “the disease with 1,000 faces.”
Lupus still doesn’t have the same name recognition as some other diseases, Sevigny said, which is why the efforts of Lupus Ontario and its chapter organizations remain important.“There is no cure for lupus, it’s just to stabilize and live a long, comfortable life,” she said of the disease which remains difficult to get a diagnosis for.
Mikeala Drouin has a similar support network of people living with lupus, and attended Friday’s walk alongside several family members.
