Delays at Pearson may not be improving very quickly. But someday, you just might be able to wait them out high while sitting at a slot machine. The agency running the airport has hired a lobbyist to explore the idea of bringing gambling to the facility.

But Michaels’ lobbying paperwork suggests Pearson may now be considering more outside-the-box — or even off-the-wagon — solutions to its fiscal woes. Some pot industry experts also believe its just a matter of time before some airport somewhere opens a cannabis store. Copilot, a company founded by two former roommates at Dartmouth College in the U.S., plans to open a pot shop in the Prince George, B.C., airport by the end of this year.
The barriers to gambling at the airport, though, might be steeper. Casinos in Ontario are heavily regulated. Private companies own geographic rights to operate gambling across the province. A Vancouver company, Great Canadian Entertainment, owns those rights in the GTA and already has a huge casino at Woodbine, just up the road from the airport.
