Local political stalwarts are challenging their respective leaders in the Bexar County Republican and Democratic parties ahead of a momentous general election this year.Bexar County Republican Party Chair John Austin touts his leadership as a return to competency in the wake of his controversial predecessor, Cynthia Brehm. The 53-year-old real estate appraiser says he has accomplished his goal of unifying and re-energizing local Republicans.
Voters will elect a Precinct 3 commissioner in the Nov. 8 general election to represent the North Side for an uncompleted term from 2023-2024 after Trish DeBerry stepped down from her seat to run for county judge. The local Republican Party is expected to nominate its candidate this summer.Reed Williams, 74, is a former San Antonio city councilman who served on the San Antonio Water System board.
Voters in Precinct 4, which covers the eastern sector of the county, will decide in November who will represent them for a full four-year term.Larry Ricketts, 77, is a daycare owner and former sheriff’s and constable’s deputy who has run for numerous elected posts, starting with a bid for sheriff in 1996 as a Republican and in 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012 as a Democrat. He also ran in 2006 as a Democrat for state representative.
