Carrying candles to light the way the family, friends and coworkers of mail carrier Jonte Davis of Warren marched from the downtown post office where he worked, to the spot on Olive Avenue Northeast where he lost his life on Saturday.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - An emotional night in Warren as about 100 people gathered to honor the memory of a U.S. Postal carrier shot and killed on the job.
Warren Police called the shooting a targeted attack by someone who knew the victim. But at this point no arrests have been made. Davis was shot while in his postal van, and the vehicle crashed. Police and EMTs preformed life saving measures, but Davis, the father of young children, died at the hospital.
His sister Shante Mason screamed out in tears telling 19 News, “I’ve got to go to a graveyard to talk to my brother now. Do you know when I walked in the hospital room to see my baby laying there, a tear was coming down his eye. He was scared. All he was trying to do was make an honest living and go home to his family. You killed him on duty. Killed him in his truck. When I read that paper that my brother was slumped over that wheel, my baby died by himself.
If you have any information that could lead to an arrest and successful prosecution in this case there is a $250,000 reward being offered by the U.S. Postal Service.
