Relatives and loved ones gathered near a small memorial in tribute to Castelan. He had just turned 21 in May. Carino said Castelan was born in New York before moving to Mexico with his family as a small boy. When he turned 18, he moved back to the Bronx to work.Castelan was riding his bike on East 172nd Street at around 3 p.m. on Sunday when police say he was hit by a stolen white Jeep Grand Cherokee at the corner of Metcalf Avenue.
