Transport driver crossed into oncoming traffic on Highway 17 near Bruce Mines, police say
A transport driver faces numerous charges after an off-duty police officer and a cattle truck operator were forced to take evasive measures in order to avoid a head-on collision on Highway 17 near Bruce Mines.
The driver of the tractor trailer was identified from dashcam footage obtained from the cattle truck. The accused was arrested and charged on May 25. On April 29, 2024 5:30 p.m., an off-duty East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police officer was operating their personal vehicle and travelling to work for a night shift in the Town of Thessalon. The off-duty officer was behind an eastbound fully loaded tractor trailer transporting cattle. An oncoming white tractor trailer with white boxed trailer was travelling westbound on Highway 17 and crossed the centre line and entered the eastbound lane.
The white westbound tractor trailer returned to the westbound lane and continued westbound on Highway 17.
