An assault victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries following an incident that occurred yesterday morning in the East Street area, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service says. It is believed that the assault happened some time between 4 and 9 a.m.

Officers are currently conducting a grid search of the area, collecting evidence and information related to the assault. Police say the victim was wearing a black jean jacket, blue jeans, and off-white running shoes at the time of the assault.
