A second resident, a 41-year-old woman, was injured while escaping the fire by jumping from a second-floor window.
She was treated for nonlife threatening injuries at Jersey City Medical Center and has since been released, Suarez said.
The cause remains under investigation at this time, the prosecutor said, but a source with knowledge of the incident said the fire may have been started when a lithium battery on an e-bike caught fire.
