Victoria Police says one of its officers shot and killed a dog while arresting a man who had warrants for his arrest on Monday.
Around 3:30 a.m. on June 17, an officer was in the 500 block of Ellice Street to arrest a man with warrants for his arrest. VicPD says a dog came out from a nearby tent during the arrest and “lunged aggressively towards the officer.”“Fearing serious injury, the officer discharged their firearm killing the dog,” VicPD said in an email to CHEK. “An on-duty officer with the Integrated Canine Unit attended to provide medical aid to the dog, but it succumbed to its injuries.
“We understand that people may feel strongly about the well-being of this dog,” the email said. “Rest assured this decision was not made lightly.”
