EXCLUSIVE: Reality star Vicky Pattison has candidly opened up on her own relationship with drinking as she explores her dad John's alcoholism in a new Channel 4 documentary
But while the 34 year old is as kind as always, it’s clear today’s interview is more poignant and sombre than usual as we delve into her childhood with her alcoholic dad, John.
“I thought to myself, ‘If you don’t take control of your actions, you’re going to end up alone and like your dad,’ which has always been my greatest fear.” There’s been moments when the relationship wasn’t the best but I learnt through this documentary that I’m a bit of an enabler. I always assumed that my dad’s life was hard enough without me making it harder so I was a bit of a soft touch. We’ve never not spoken but I know that making excuses for him wasn’t what was best for him in the long run.My dad has had to accept that once you’re an alcoholic, you’re always an alcoholic.
