Hundreds of Via Rail passengers were still stuck Saturday after being stranded overnight on nine motionless trains as a result of Friday’s winter storm.

Rider Lucy Ellis told the Star before 11 a.m. that the train was still stranded in Cobourg, an hour away from her destination. Emergency services boarded the train at 10:30 p.m. and provided water and food, she said, but those supplies have since run out and the toilets have stopped working. Passengers say a second train arrived just before 11:15 a.m. Fire fighters are assisted those on board to move in the wagon, resuming its route to Toronto.A full refund will be provided to those passengers stranded in the trains, Via Rail added.
