Vegas Golden Knights fail one another as teammates in 5-1 loss to Edmonton Oilers Via sportsdanbarnes

Golden Knights winger Brett Howden and Oilers defenceman Brett Kulak kicked it off with a short, uneventful scrap in front of the benches which began while the play was finishing in a seven-man scrum against the end boards in the Knights zone.Vegas was out-manned at the time as two of their skaters, Mark Stone and Chandler Stephenson, left the ice just before the fight started and the whistle blew, but only Kolesar came off the bench on the line change.

Both linesmen and referee Trevor Hanson were otherwise occupied in the neutral zone at that point, cleaning up the Howden/Kulak preliminary bout. “It’s frustrating, right. The ref is standing right there,” Stone said. “We only got four guys on the ice, they got five and the refs are just standing there, letting him get hit. So it is frustrating for sure. You never want to see a teammate getting kind of suckered down like that, especially one who has stuck up for his teammates all year. … I would have liked to see the refs maybe do a little bit better job to help out Keegan.

“The competitive spirit is in our group,” he said. “It wasn’t here today. It was here Game 1. It was here against Winnipeg, so it will come back. I have faith in the guys. We’ll execute. We’ve been a good executing team.Article content
