He all but pleaded with the news media to note the past due aspect in reporting the $800 million payout.
Earlier this year, the B.C. NDP government concluded an estimated $350 million deal with Blueberry. It followed a B.C. Supreme Court finding that the province had repeatedly encroached on the First Nations’ treaty rights and traditional territory through logging and natural gas development. “You had the courage not to appeal the Blueberry case — because of that decision, we were able to arrive at a settlement through dialogue,” said Chief Justin Napoleon of the Saulteau First Nations.
