Vaughn Palmer: Premier David Eby embarked on the second half of his promised 100 days of action Monday by boosting government efforts to recruit more nurses during the continuing crisis in health care.

“Right now, candidates are waiting three years to be granted registration,” said Eby. “Our goal is to bring it down to between four and nine months.” In response, Dix activated emergency operations centres at 20 provincial hospitals to try to free up beds by early discharge of patients and other measures.
Dix’s announcement Friday came on Day 50 of Eby’s action plan. Monday being day 53, the premier was asked how his longer-term effort to recruit more nurses was all that helpful to a system in need of more urgent relief.On the contrary, argued Eby: the nursing recruitment measures are good news for the system.
