“There will be a pause on store closing and my suspicion is that the performance of the Vancouver stores are above average for Tesla sales and they may all stay open,” electric-car anal…
A decision by Telsa to back away from plans to close its retail outlets worldwide is good news for Vancouver, says electric-car analyst Matthew Klippenstein.
The blog said that sales would be made online only and that drivers would not need test drives as they could return the vehicle within a week or before driving 1,000 miles, whichever came first. As a result of the closures the electric-car maker would be able to keep the price of its new mid-market Model 3 at US$35,000.
“As a result of keeping significantly more stores open, Tesla will need to raise vehicle prices by about 3 per cent on average worldwide. In other words, we will only close about half as many stores, but the cost savings are therefore only about half. Related Klippenstein said the change seemed to be impulsive, and “that’s the last thing you would want at the helm of a corporation.” He said Musk plays a very active role in the company board’s decision making.
Tesla also announced Monday that it had purchased car-hauling trucks and trailers from a California company in a stock deal worth about $14.2 million. Tesla paid for the purchase with about 50,000 previously authorized shares. Tesla wants to increase its vehicle transportation capacity and cut delivery times.
