Hundreds of nurses from Vancouver Island are meeting in Nanaimo for a BC Nurses Union (BCNU) conference. They will discuss workplace issues and priorities before their collective agreement expires on March 31, 2025. The nurses are calling for action to address chronic staffing shortages and workplace safety concerns, including issues related to open drug use in hospitals.

Hundreds of nurses from across Vancouver Island are gathering in Nanaimo this week for a BC Nurses Union conference ahead of the union’s negotiations with the provincial government later this year.

“This conference is an opportunity for our members to come together, show their solidarity, and push for the changes they need to see happen – changes that will help support them in their work to provide the quality, safe patient care British Columbians deserve,” she said.
