Moviegoers on Vancouver Island and beyond will be able to sit back and enjoy a flick on the big screen at a fraction of the cost this weekend.

More than 3,000 movie theatres across North America will offer $3 tickets to mark National Cinema Day this Saturday, Sept. 3, as the industry bounces back from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Both Cineplex Entertainment and Landmark Cinemas will offer the deal at all locations and for all movies, showtimes and formats, such as IMAX and UltraAVX. Cineplex operates four locations on the Island, including Cineplex Odeon Victoria Cinemas, SilverCity Victoria Cinemas, Cineplex Odeon Westshore Cinemas, and Galaxy Cinemas Nanaimo.Many local independent theatres across Canada are also participating in the one-day event, including Caprice Twin Theatres in Duncan, according to the Movie Theatre Association of Canada .Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email.
