Two major fundraising events in Vancouver raised over $2.7 million for deserving causes. The Multisensory Star Chef Soirée, benefitting Arthritis Society Canada, featured a truffle-infused dinner by Chef Umberto Bombana, while the Canucks Dice and Ice Gala saw the Vancouver Canucks team up with fans to raise funds for children's charities.
In a remarkable display of philanthropic spirit, Vancouver witnessed the inaugural Multisensory Star Chef Soirée, a groundbreaking fundraising event for Arthritis Society Canada. This exclusive, invite-only event, presented by Serein Properties, introduced guests to the culinary artistry of Chef Umberto Bombana, renowned as the “King of White Truffles” and co-owner of 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana in Hong Kong.
Collaborating with Montréal-based creative studio Normal Studio, the creators of the globally acclaimed “Beyond Van Gogh” experience, the gastronomic gala transformed the Fairmont Pacific Rim ballroom into an immersive culinary wonderland. Attendees, upon donation of a suggested $25,000 per couple, were treated to an eight-course truffle-infused dinner, meticulously paired with exquisite wines. The evening unfolded as a captivating spectacle, with tabletops and vast wall panels constantly shifting with vibrant images, orchestrated by Normal Studio’s team of creative visionaries. Event chair Cecilia Tse spearheaded this unprecedented fundraising initiative, aiming to support President and CEO Trish Barbato’s Arthritis Society Canada and its crucial research into childhood arthritis. The event garnered an impressive $1.35 million, a testament to the generosity of patrons like Dr. Hilary and Patsy Hui, who contributed the suggested donation to partake in this unique culinary experience. Honourary chair Leslie Diamond expressed gratitude to the City of Vancouver’s Darryl Lagerquist and Betsy Wen, CEO of Serein Properties, for their unwavering support, ensuring that all proceeds directly benefited pediatric research.Meanwhile, the Vancouver Canucks took to the ice for their annual Dice and Ice Gala, uniting fans with players in a night of fun and philanthropy. The Parq Vancouver ballroom was transformed into a Vegas-style casino, complete with blackjack, poker, and roulette tables. Canucks players, setting aside their on-ice struggles, engaged with fans, dealt cards, twirled roulette wheels, and posed for photos. The black-tie affair featured a spirited live auction and paddle-raise, interspersed with heartwarming stories of families whose lives have been touched by the Canucks for Kids Fund. The event culminated in a record-breaking $1.35 million raised for Canucks Autism Network, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, B.C. Children’s Hospital, and other deserving children’s charities. Since its inception, the Canucks for Kids Fund has amassed an extraordinary total of over $100 million in support of B.C. children. Al Murdoch, the voice of the Vancouver Canucks and master of ceremonies, alongside Canuck defenseman Tyler Myers, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the nearly 900 fans who contributed to this impressive feat of fundraising. Brock Boeser, a fan favorite, mingled with supporters, while Canucks for Kids Fund executive director Alex Oxenham, oversaw the proceedings. Businessman Sean Salem and Stober Foundation’s Keith Brewster were among the generous attendees who helped establish this new fundraising benchmark
