Pieter Swart, an anesthesiologist at UBC and Vancouver General Hospitals, died Thursday in pursuit of a lifelong dream
Swart awoke on summit day but felt unwell and decided to return to safety to Camp II where a helicopter was waiting, said Umedaly.
He worked for 19 years at Vancouver General and UBC hospitals. A good half of anesthesiologists in the region have been taught and inspired by him, said Umedaly. Umedaly said one of the many admirable things about Swart was his love for his family. “Everything he did was for his family — except for Everest.”
