After leaving Edmonton as a teenager to pursue professional soccer, Davies, 21, will return to Edmonton to help Canada qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in…

Canada will host Costa Rica on Nov. 12 and Mexico on Nov. 16 at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, where over 40,000 tickets have already been sold for both matches.

In Edmonton, Davies participated in the Free Footie after school program and then went on to play with the St. Nicholas Soccer Academy. He quickly caught the eye of the Vancouver Whitecaps and was invited to attend their youth residency program. “For me personally, it’s like a homecoming game,” Davies said. “Since I left Edmonton, this will be the first time I’m returning to the city to play. For us these two games are really important and if we can get three points in each game, it’s going to be amazing for us.

The top three teams earn an automatic berth into the 32-team World Cup tournament in Qatar and the fourth-place team will face a team from another region for an additional berth. Canada has not qualified for a men’s World Cup since its only appearance in 1986 in Mexico.“I think the experience is going to be amazing, I’ve witnessed it first hand with the Women’s World Cup and the atmosphere in there was electric,” Davies said.

“The last time I played a match in Edmonton was before I moved to Vancouver when I was 13 or something like that,” he said. “ This will be my first professional game in Edmonton. I played all my youth in Edmonton and coming back home with the national team is an amazing feeling.
