Last year, 187 women were killed violently in Canada. And we all remember the Montreal massacre at École Polytechnique in which 14 engineering students were murdered simply for being women. Each loss is a tragedy, a stark reminder of the urgent need for action. Beyond the immediate victims, violence leaves lasting scars on families, communities and society as a whole. Lise Courteau.
These measures include: Incorporating unpaid work into economic metrics: Calculating and integrating the value of unpaid work into the country’s gross domestic product every five years would make its economic impact visible and ensure it is factored into policy decisions. Creating supportive policies: Developing tax credits, pension programs, and replacement benefits for unpaid caregivers would provide economic security and reduce the risk of dependence on abusive partners.
