Surrey’s Vaisakhi celebration, one of the largest outside of India, took place under sunny skies Saturday
The Coquitlam man was one of about 500,000 people expected to attend Surrey’s Vaisakhi celebration to mingle with friends, enjoy the parade and sample free food.
Men, women and children in colourful clothes filled 128th Street, which was closed to traffic for much of the day, pausing to watch the floats and listen to music being performed on various stages. Children ran between booths offering free food and small gifts. A police officer directing people around the parade did so between bites of fried bread.“It’s nice to see everyone,” she said. “You meet a lot of people.”
“I enjoy walking in the streets and seeing everything that’s going on,” added her friend Kamal Cheema.GALLERY: Photos: Vaisakhi celebration in Surrey Raman Brar’s daughters and nieces visited the City of Surrey’s tent to pick up popcorn and suckers.Surrey’s Vaisakhi celebration is one of the largest outside of India, with people flying in from around the world to attend.
