Emily Lu, 72, was reported missing on June 4, 2021, and was found dead weeks later. Her admitted killer, Brian Sayrs Jr., led investigators to her remains, authorities said. A Prince William County man was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison for slaying his 72-year-old landlord in Lorton.to second-degree murder and concealing a body in the June 2021 killing of Emily Lu, who was found dead aboutfollowing what authorities said was a rent dispute with Sayrs.
Officials have said Lu was last seen on June 3, 3021, at a grocery store in Prince William. On June 4, 2021, her manager reported her missing. When police first entered Lu’s home after her disappearance, they found perishable food left out in the kitchen and a knife with its blade broken off in a sink. The house reeked of bleach and other cleaning products, authorities said.
“It was terrible because, logically, your first thought is ‘Well, she is probably deceased and somebody knows where she is,’” Ball said. “Having to also have hope that she is alive … even though in your mind she’s probably deceased. It’s just this cognitive dissonance that’s very difficult.”Nearly two months later, officials said, Sayrs called detectives and confessed to the crime. He then led police about two miles from Lu’s home, where they found her decomposed body.
