“He will be gone,” McLaughlin said after he posted the meeting. “Mariano is never coming back to the Uvalde Police Department. One way or the other, he’s not coming back. It’s not going to happen, not while I’m here anyway.” In the audio, a 911 dispatcher told Pargas one of the children at the school, Khloie Torres, then 10, had said there were survivors.“Eight to nine are still alive,” a dispatcher replied. “She’s not too sure. … She’s not too sure how many are actually DOA or possibly injured.”
“He should definitely be fired,” Torres said. “He knew kids were in there who were alive and needed help and still, not one cop went in.”
