The achievement secured her a return trip to the NCAA championships — a stage no other Roadrunners golfer has ever reached. The six-day event begins Friday at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. She raised her play to a new level in 2023, with the NCAA regional marking her fourth consecutive top-10 finish and seventh overall this season. During that run, she notched her first career win at the Trinity Forest Invitational in early March, setting school records with a 14-under total and a 7-under 65 in the final round.
Though playing on her home course for regionals was an advantage, Carreon said she usually averages about a 4-over on the Oaks. “In the beginning of my college years, I was super nervous, and I’d get a little shaky,” Carreon said. “It’s just experience, and knowing I belong. The confidence has been growing, every since last year, when I made it to nationals.”
Carreon said she prefers to set more incremental goals, hoping to simply make the cut. Another aim for this year’s tournament is to “just stay calm,” she said.
