After falling just shy of earning a single-digit jersey the past two years, defensive lineman Asyrus Simon hopes to emerge as a leader in his final season.
After biding his time during a quiet freshman season in 2020 and through his first significant action in 2021, UTSA defensive lineman Asyrus Simon saw a window to step forward as one of the unit’s most vocal players. He took pride in the role, spreading his mantra, “motivate, elevate, be great.” Teammates regularly pointed to him as a standout presence the past two years.
I think that’s coming, just because of the work Asyrus is putting in. He’s a really good football player. He’s played quite a bit for us, and we’re excited to see him take that next step.” Simon said he can “see that in myself,” understanding he has room to create more standout plays as he enters his fifth season with two career sacks and seven tackles for loss.
