Witnesses reported seeing a man and woman arguing shortly before the blaze in West Valley City, Utah.
No arrests have been made but the suspect's identity is known to authorities and police are working to find him, according to the fire department. No further details were immediately released.
West Valley City Fire Department Deputy Chief Chris Beichner said the fire started in a unit on the second floor and completely gutted two apartments, ABC4 reported. He said fire crews took 45 minutes to put out the fire, but all eight units in the complex sustained fire damage and are no longer habitable, according to the station.
Red Cross Utah/Nevada said on Twitter that the fire had left 24 people displaced. The organization added that it had provided assistance to seven adults and four children.
