The Biden administration has declared that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan are committing genocide and sanctioned the group and businesses linked to them in the UAE.
The Biden administration declared on Tuesday that Sudan 's Rapid Support Force ( RSF ) rebel group and its allies are committing genocide in the country's civil war and imposed sanctions on the group's leaders.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that the RSF and RSF-aligned militias have perpetrated attacks against civilians, systematically murdered men and boys, even infants, on an ethnic basis, and deliberately targeted women and girls from certain ethnic groups for rape and sexual violence. Furthermore, these militias have targeted fleeing civilians, murdered innocent people escaping conflict, and obstructed remaining civilians from accessing essential supplies. Blinken concluded that members of the RSF and allied militias have committed genocide in Sudan based on this information. The U.S. sanctions include several businesses operating in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a federation of seven sheikhdoms on the Arabian Peninsula, including one involved in gold likely smuggled from Sudan. The UAE has been repeatedly accused of arming the RSF, a claim the UAE vehemently denies despite evidence to the contrary. Emirati officials did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday night
