Likely adding to the confusion are the recent changes to the PPP made by the federal government to make attaining forgiveness easier. Changes signed into law on June 5 under the included increasing the portion of a business's loan that can go toward nonpayroll costs from 25% to 40%; extending payment deferral periods; and extending the deadline by which PPP loans have to be spent from 8 weeks after disbursement to 24 weeks after disbursement or December 31, 2020, whichever is earlier.
