Uptown Waterloo nightclub will be nothing like Streetlights ‘disaster,’ owner says. Club granted liquor licence, despite objections from some nearby residents who called previous club 'a nightmare.'

WATERLOO — The owner of a restaurant/nightclub opening in the former home of the controversial Streetlights nightclub has been granted a liquor licence, despite objections from people who live in a nearby apartment building.

“Mr. Schwartz testified that he often had to step over intoxicated patrons of Streetlights to get into his apartment building and had to physically prevent people whom he believed became intoxicated at Streetlights from entering his apartment building on a regular basis.” “Imeson does not dispute that Streetlights was run improperly or that it had the effects on the neighbourhood described by the objectors. He stated it was a ‘disaster’ and was treated as a party zone. ... Imeson described it as an embarrassment.”

The area saw a “staggering degree of violence and drunkenness” when Streetlights opened, Michael Duerrstein testified.
