SaltWire's Atlantic regional weather forecast for October 6, 2023 | SaltWireCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — UPEI failed to inform staff about international students who were isolating on campus during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and took too long to pass along a report about ventilation to the school’s health and safety committee.
While the arguments were lengthy, the arbitration board found three main concerns during the hearing: self-isolation of international students on campus; the adequacy of the employer’s ventilation system and the function of the JOHSC . “ details of when the students would be arriving, where they would be housed and what measures would be in place to minimize the risk of workers being infected,” the board said.
In the fall of 2021, UPEI commissioned a report from MCA on ventilation on campus. When this report found several classrooms lacked proper ventilation, the school installed HVAC systems.
