CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The union representing academic staff at UPEI continues to express concerns about the lack of transparency surrounding its new medical school and the feasibility of opening it next year.

In addition, some UPEI faculties are operating with as little as half of their optimal staffing levels, and overall the university has relatively low full-time staffing levels for a university of this size, she said. “These are temporary administrators who have not gone through a formal hiring process or quality assessment, and therefore lack a mandate to do more than keep the institution in working order pending a formal and transparent hiring process,” Arfken said.
