Morning rollover closes road, sends two to hospital
Debris from a single-vehicle rollover on Portugal Cove Road on Saturday morning covers both southbound lanes.
Emergency crews responded to a section of Portugal Cove Road, between Craig Dobbin Way and World Parkway, at about 9:45 a.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting the crash. The vehicle was traveling in the northbound lanes when its driver lost control. The car swerved on the roadway, entering the median, where it rolled over after clipping a light pole. The heavily-damaged car came to a rest in the southbound lanes.
Firefighters and paramedics tended to both occupants of the car before taking them to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious. An officer with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary prepares to investigate the cause of a single-vehicle rollover. A fire extinguisher had to be used to douse flames around the engine of a car that rolled over on Portugal Cove Road.
